2. Properties:Potassium nitrate is colorless and transparent orthorhombic crystals or powders or particles, with a relative density of 2.109 and a melting point of 334°C. When heated to about 400°C, it decomposes, releases oxygen, and transforms into potassium nitrite.

Continue to heat and decompose into potassium oxide and nitrogen oxide. Easily soluble in water, liquid ammonia and glycerol; insoluble in absolute ethanol and ether.
