2. Properties:
(1) General sodium nitrate: white fine crystals, or light yellow.
(2) Dry powder sodium nitrate: non-caking, in loose form.
Specific gravity 2.257. It is easily deliquescent, easily soluble in water and liquid ammonia, slightly soluble in ethanol and glycerol, and has a melting point of 308°C. The decomposition temperature is 380°C, and the decomposition products are sodium nitrite and oxygen.
When heated to a higher temperature, the decomposition intensifies and a mixed gas of oxygen, nitrogen, and oxygen-nitrogen compounds is generated.
3. Purpose:Widely used in glass, dye, metallurgy, machinery, ceramics and other industries.
